In the context of World Kidney Day, Fundashon Mariadal organized an Open Day of the Dialysis Department on Wednesday April 2. The activity took place at the main entrance of the organization and attracted more than 100 visitors from the Bonairean community.
During the event, visitors could go for free health checks, including measurements of blood pressure, blood sugar, weight and a urine protein test (to screen for early kidney damage). There was also ample opportunity to talk to healthcare professionals about kidney health, lifestyle and prevention.
The care team of Fundashon Mariadal – consisting of dialysis nurses, a dietician, pharmacist, pharmacy assistants and the nephrologist – provided extensive information and practical tips. The atmosphere was open, accessible and informative.
What made this day special was that several visitors took immediate action based on their test results. Some scheduled an appointment with their GP on the spot. This clearly achieved the goal of the day – to stimulate awareness and take preventive action.
