In a small community like ours, it is both important and gratifying to see that so many Bonaireans feel involved and committed to maintaining optimal and sustainable healthcare on Bonaire.
Fundashon Mariadal and our employees are committed to this 24/7/365. The board of Fundashon Mariadal attaches great importance to the involvement of the community in our care provision. Recently, a lot of attention has been paid in the media to the importance of the air ambulance, Kas di Kuido (nursing home), pharmacy and medical specialties.
In addition, we received reports that there is a serious lack of good healthcare specialists on Bonaire. The board of Fundashon Mariadal does not share this opinion. On the contrary, we can consider ourselves fortunate with the high level of care we enjoy on Bonaire. This high level is due to several factors, including the availability of highly skilled and excellently trained medical specialists.
The collaboration with Amsterdam UMC, our dedicated staff and the continuing students of our own FM Academy, enables us to guarantee quality, availability and continuity of care that meets European Dutch standards. Our healthcare institution is under the direct supervision of the Dutch Inspectorate for Healthcare and Youth (IGJ). In addition, medical specialists who have worked at Fundashon Mariadal for a longer period of time can travel to the European Netherlands every year to keep their knowledge and skills up to date.
The Island Council of the Public Entity of Bonaire has invited the board of Fundashon Mariadal to an informative meeting about, among other things, ambulance flights. Although Mariadal is a private healthcare foundation with a contractual relationship with the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport (ZJCN) for healthcare purchasing, the board of Fundashon Mariadal understands the importance that the island council attaches to direct information. For this reason, the board has decided to accept the invitation and we are currently awaiting a date for this informative meeting with the Island Council.
